At Mahalo Wellness we believe that the disease of addiction affects many more people than just the individual who struggles with substance use disorder. Family members and friends of those that suffer from addiction are deeply impacted in a myriad of ways. We have observed that when the family participates and gains understanding, they increase the likelihood that the person struggling with addiction will shift and make changes.
Addiction impacts the entire family, and Mahalo Wellness is committed to providing support to the loved ones of those struggling with substance use disorder. Addiction can damage the family structure and relationships, leaving behind guilt, anger, fear, and despair. The family is thrown into stress, worry, and emotional turmoil. Realizing that addiction is not just an individual issue, but a family crisis is essential in providing effective treatment & support. Coping strategies and promoting healthy, supportive family dynamics are crucial in the fight against addiction.
To help our families achieve insight and maintain healthy relationships as they begin their own journey, family members will have the opportunity to take part in groups that provide open discussions, personal exercises, and lectures. This is a forum for education and enlightenment, with questions and concerns to be addressed by all who are participating.
Family support groups offer many tangible benefits for family members and loved ones. The following examples are just a few that will be explored and discussed at Mahalo Wellness:
· Communication skills and a better understanding of the problem
· Family conflict resolution
· A chance for family members to voice how actions have impacted their lives
· A safe space for participants to express emotions and ask questions about addiction and recovery
· Discovering ways to rebuild trust and set boundaries
· How to avoid unhealthy patterns and learn why codependent relationships are dangerous
· Learning coping skills for future family challenges
· Heal emotional scars
Sometimes trying to treat an individual that struggles with substance use without addressing family dynamics would only be treating one facet of the problem. The entire family suffers when one member suffers from addiction, so the whole family may need to be a part of the recovery process. Family support groups are a safe space for families and loved ones to have productive conversations around the challenges and emotions surrounding addiction and substance use. Let our compassionate staff at Mahalo Wellness help your family heal, grow, and transform.
