Finding Balance, will help participants understand why they overcompensate, fulfill everyone’s needs but their own, or put themselves last. This group can help a person identify codependent tendencies, understand why the behaviors were adopted in the first place, and develop self-compassion to heal and transform old patterns. Our 12-week program is designed for individuals seeking to understand how codependency affects their lives and relationships, the course delves into psychological and emotional dynamics that underpin these behaviors.
Below are some key aspects of what one can expect while participating in this group:
1. Recognizing Codependency: Participants will learn how codependency can cause one to lose their Self in someone else. Over-functioning in someone else’s life limits the other person’s growth, keeping them from being capable and responsible. Though its intent may be to help, this type of over-involvement ultimately hurts the healthy development of the other person. Participants will also learn and discuss the traits and behaviors that characterize codependent relationships, including enabling behaviors and the impact of low self-esteem.
2. Codependency and Addiction: Codependency and addiction frequently intertwine, creating a mutually reinforcing and destructive cycle. Participants will explore how codependency influences addiction patterns and vice versa, and will learn how to recognize the signs of unhealthy attachments.
3. How Codependency Affects Relationships: Together we will discuss the effects of codependency on a relationship by addressing imbalance of power, emotional exhaustion, lack of independence, and increased conflict. Through open discussions, participants will have opportunities for introspection, allowing them to identify personal experiences related to codependency and their relationships, and learn how to develop essential skills to escape from codependent patterns.
4. Breaking the Cycle: Participants will learn how to identify and implement effective strategies for breaking free from codependent patterns and foster healthier relationships. This includes setting boundaries, improving communication skills, and enhancing self-care practices.
5. Developing a Healthy Self: Creating a better balance between care of self and others. With these visual tools, goals, and behaviors in mind, we will help participants to work on finding a better balance between care of their Self and care of others. This balance is always changing, because life is always changing. But we want to learn the importance of finding and acting on that balance situation-by-situation, day-by-day. This is how we develop our healthy Self.
6. Feel Your Own Feelings: An enriching and transformative experience where participants will focus on their own feelings of codependency and explore their emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Together we will cultivate self-awareness and practice emotional expression.
The primary goal of Finding Balance is to empower individuals to cultivate healthy relationships. They will get tools to help them understand and recognize the signs of codependency and pivot away from them by learning how to establish appropriate, healthy boundaries with others.
